We love boats and ships and

everything to do with marinas.

Spencer & Solomon

They had just bought a gorilla pod

to take some selfies for their

engagement photos. The problem was after one photo they lost it. I happened upon Spencer & Solomon in Central Park while I was waiting for Jeff & Jackie to arrive and snap their proposal. They told me briefly about their mishap with the gorilla pod and their failed attempts at getting the photos they wanted. Recognizing I was in no position to chat at that moment insisted he get my card to talk about a real engagement session.

Sure enough a week later we had quite the production laid out. I brought my friend along to help with the lighting because unlike all my proposals which I shoot in natural light, this was an opportunity to use creative lighting. We went down to the South Street Seaport in Manhattan as per their request.

From the jump they made it clear that they weren’t looking for a storyline, but rather just some top notch portraits. So surrounded by the water, blue skies, and boats and ships with ropes hanging all over and anchors and masts I went to work. We spent longer than was originally planned but that was no bother for me. We did a wardrobe change halfway through and as the sun was setting we captured more shots with the magentas and purples that were showing up.

This was my first time working with two men and I must admit it was different, but they were a blessing, super patient and enthusiastic. I showed them the shots off the back of the camera and they were immediately onboard with whatever I wanted to do.
